Dress Like You Run the Ship

A womens pirate costume is a layered outfit: a chemise or loose shirt as the base, a dress or skirt over it, shaped with a belt or corset and finished with leather accessories. Every piece here is a real garment in breathable cotton and full grain leather, cut so you can climb, fight, dance, and stay comfortable from gate open to last tavern song, and made to combine with Epic Armoury armor and weapons when your character draws steel. Build a working sea rover, a smuggler, or a pirate queen, and wear the same kit through LARP campaigns, Renaissance faires, festivals, and the stage, season after season.

The Pieces That Build the Look

  • Dresses and skirts: Hard-wearing, movement-friendly dresses in muted, practical colors that read seafarer rather than ballroom, plus skirts cut for combat footwork.

  • Chemises, shifts, and shirts: Loose base layers and swashbuckler shirts with adjustable necklines worn high or off the shoulder, and full sleeves that tie at the wrist so they stay out of your sword arm's way.

  • Corsets and vests: Shaping layers that cinch the silhouette and add rank, from rogue's corsets to canvas jerkins.

  • Coats and capes: The captain's finishing layer for cold nights and grand entrances.

  • Belts, baldrics, and accessories: Sword belts and baldrics to carry your blade, plus gloves, pouches, and bandoliers that make your costume look lived-in rather than dressed-up.

Pirate Women Were Real

Anne Bonny and Mary Read fought, sailed, and commanded during the Golden Age of Piracy, mostly in the same practical sailor's clothing as their crews. That's the spirit of this collection: garments you can genuinely move and fight in, styled your way. Shirt, skirt, and a sword belt make a deckhand nobody questions. A dress and corset build a layered rover. Add a coat, a blade, and a leather tricorn from our [pirate hats] collection, and you've taken the captaincy.

Built to Fight In

For combat-heavy LARPs, a battle-cut skirt keeps your footwork free, tied sleeves keep fabric away from your parries, and greaves strap on over the top when the fighting gets serious. For faires, festivals, and social play, the full dress silhouette has unmatched presence. Many players own both and choose per event, and if your character prefers trousers, everything here pairs with the trousers in our wider clothing range. Muted colors hide campaign mud, and cotton washes clean between event days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I buy first?
The base layer: a shift or shirt. It anchors everything you add later, and with a skirt and belt you already have a complete outfit. Corsets, coats, and accessories raise your rank one purchase at a time.

How do I choose sizes for layering?
Check the measurements on each product page. Base layers are cut loose by design, and corsets and outer layers adjust with lacing and belts, so one size covers real range.

Can I actually fight in it at a LARP?
Yes. That's what it's cut for, and the collection includes the sword belts and greaves to prove it.

How do I wash and care for it?
Cotton garments wash gently and come back event after event. Leather pieces just need occasional conditioning, and they only look better with age.

Is this a packaged Halloween costume?
No. These are the real thing: cotton and leather garments made for years of hard wear. They'll also be the best costume at any Halloween party.
