PU Armor Greaves

Greaves complete the armored silhouette from the ground up. Without leg protection, even a well-built kit can look unfinished above the knee, and PU armor greaves are the piece that closes that gap cleanly. Epic Armoury's greaves are molded from polyurethane: lightweight, precisely detailed, and ready to wear straight out of the box.

The range covers seven designs across a spread of aesthetics, from classical antiquity to historical military and heavier fantasy builds.

At a glance:

  • Material: Molded polyurethane (PU)
  • Weight: Significantly lighter than leather or metal equivalents
  • Fastenings: Adjustable strap-and-buckle
  • Maintenance: Wipe clean, no conditioning required
  • Use: Suitable for LARP, reenactment, cosplay, and costume

What Are PU Armor Greaves?

PU armor greaves are molded polyurethane plates covering the lower leg from just below the knee to the ankle. They protect the shin and calf and are one of the most visible pieces of leg armor in motion, which makes the design choice more noticeable than it might seem when the piece is sitting on a shelf.

Unlike leather greaves, PU greaves have no break-in period and no conditioning requirement. The shape is fixed from day one, which makes fit straightforward but also means getting the sizing right before purchasing matters more than it does with adjustable materials.

What You Will Find in This Category

Seven designs cover a wide range of aesthetic directions, all built to the same construction standard.

The Palace Guard Greaves and Knightly Greaves are the most structured designs in the range, with clean lines and precise plate detailing suited to formal military and armored fighter builds. The Nordic Greaves have a more grounded, historical feel, suited to Viking-influenced kits where the armor should look like it has actually seen use.

The Barbarian Greaves and Mercenary Greaves sit at the heavier and more imposing end of the range. Both have substantial visual weight and are the right call for builds where size and presence matter as much as historical accuracy. The Outrider Greaves are angular and functional, sitting between the formal and heavy ends of the range and working well with a broader variety of kit styles.

The Spartan Greaves are the most classically styled piece in the category, drawn directly from ancient Greek military tradition. They suit antiquity-inspired builds and any fantasy design that draws on that aesthetic.

How PU Armor Greaves Fit

Greaves fasten with adjustable straps behind the calf, holding the plate against the shin. Because the molded shape is fixed, fit is less forgiving than leather, and sizing up is not always an option the way it is with adjustable materials. Check the sizing information on individual product pages before purchasing, and note that several designs are available in L/XL specifically.

Greaves sit best over fitted trousers or hose. Loose fabric can bunch behind the strap during movement and affect how securely the piece sits through a longer event.

How to Choose Your PU Armor Greaves

Start with sizing. Because PU greaves are molded rather than adjustable, the fit you get from the correct size is the fit you will have. If you are between sizes, check the measurements on the product page rather than defaulting to your usual clothing size.

From there, match the visual weight of your greaves to the rest of your kit. Greaves are a supporting piece in most builds, and they work best when they reinforce the overall aesthetic rather than pull against it. A heavily detailed chest and shoulder setup calls for greaves with comparable surface complexity. A cleaner or lighter kit is better served by something less ornate.

PU armor greaves pair naturally with the rest of the Epic Armoury PU range. If you are building a complete matched setup, the PU Armor Sets category brings greaves together with chest, shoulder, and arm protection in coordinated combinations.

How to Care for PU Armor Greaves

Wipe the surface down with a damp cloth after events to remove dirt and sweat. Keep them stored flat or upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, both of which can cause the material to warp or discolor over time. The straps can be wiped clean separately and replaced if they show wear without affecting the greave itself.
